History:
The production area of Anguria Reggiana Igp includes 20 municipalities in the province of Reggio Emilia and is considered one of the best watermelons in Italy and Europe: exchanges of letters and correspondence between the courts and the Padana nobility of the sixteenth century testify to the goodness of the fruit grown in this area. As the years progressed, Anguria Reggiana spreads more and more also at a popular level and not only for elite groups, entering important and renowned glossaries and gastronomic guides.
In 2016 it received the European Igp certification (the only type of Watermelon to have received it!), Which establishes the indissoluble link of the product with the territory and with the tradition of the farmers of the area. In 2020 the Reggiana Watermelon Protection Consortium (APAR) was born, to monitor and control the entire production chain of this excellence.
Product description:
Anguria Reggiana Igp has a bright green outer skin with dark green streaks and shades; it differs from its "colleagues" above all for its very crunchy and firm pulp, extremely fragrant, sweet and sugary. One of the most appreciated characteristics of the fruit is its thin rind, ensuring a flavorful and tasty product to the end! For its conservation, if whole, we recommend not putting it in the refrigerator but keeping it in a cool place away from heat sources; cut into wedges or halves, on the other hand, it is necessary to keep it in the fridge.
Tips & Pairings:
To be consumed fresh, just cut, "in purity" or as an ingredient in summer fruit salads. Excellent with ice cream, desserts and cakes made with cream and fruit, it is the ideal accompaniment to delicious cocktails or fresh drinks.
